WHETHER cultural, charitable or sporting – over 110 non-profit-making associations put their energy and their effort to back up the Vieilles Charrues.these are the famous "laboureurs" (the ploughmen), guardians of the spirit of Les Vieilles Charrues.
Over 5,000volunteers gave up their time to help run the festival in 2009 and by helping the festival, they were also helping their own club to move forward. Les Charrues has developed a inter-dependant system of solidarity one of the stepping stones towards sustainability. In the autumn, provided that the festival makes a profit) les Vieilles Charrues will hand over a donation to each association on a pro-rata system.
We're talking here about a real butterfly effect :just imagine that a collective investment on the part of a volunteer workforce around a music festival could have such such a marked sociocultural effect locally as well as at the other end of the earth is source of great pride for all those involved. So, among the projects which have been made possible by the help of volunteers are a school and a well for drinking water in Mali, the transportation of health equipment in India and the renovation of a chapel in central Brittany... Whether it's supplying new jerseys for the local rugby club or working on a humanitarian project, the committment behind a project with a collective interest is the same, the principle is to defend the common interest with looking for personal gain.

Over the four days of the festival, assigned to all the different services ,with the exception of security and those areas requiring specific professional competencies, each volunteer is asked to carry out three 4-hour stints. In return for the 12 hours when the volunteers lends a hand, they receive an invitation to attend the festival for free plus food vouchers when they are working.
Also, several months after the festival, everyone is invited to party in Carhaix. On the menu,an evening meal and music. In 2009 volunteers were invited to get down to the lively Dj Zebra lively set.
